EFC prepares preliminary analysis of online harms bill
The EFC has prepared a preliminary analysis of the government’s new online harms bill. Bill C-63 would set up a new regulatory framework with a new Digital Safety Commission to address seven categories of online harm, ranging from intimate content communicated without consent to content victimizing a child, fomenting hatred, or inciting violence. Bill C-63 would also add new provisions to the Criminal Code and add hate speech as a discriminatory practice in the Canadian Human Rights Act.
EFC staff speaking in B.C., Ont., N.B. this Friday
EFC staff will be speaking at various events in different regions of Canada this Friday, April 5. EFC President David Guretzki will bring greetings at the Atlantic Church Leaders Roundtable in Sussex, N.B., while EFC Senior Ambassador Bruce J. Clemenger will give a lecture in an ethics and public affairs class at Ottawa’s Laurentian Leadership Centre. EFC Alberta Ambassador Monica Loewen will speak at the Pro-life Society of Smithers Annual General Meeting in B.C.
Several EFC staff will speak in-person at Evangelical Missionary Society regional conferences happening simultaneously on April 5 in Ont., MB and B.C. Ontario conference speaking topics include being reconcilers in community (Manuel Boehm), a theology of childbearing (Lindsay Callaway), and holistic witness (Joel Zantingh). Phil Wagler will speak on war and Christian mission at the B.C. conference.
EFC President, Senior Ambassador to attend consultation on religious freedom issues
EFC President David Guretzki and EFC Senior Ambassador Bruce J. Clemenger will attend the Religious Liberty Partnership’s consultation in Toronto from April 8-11. This annual consultation connects leaders of member organizations with other political and academic leaders to discuss international religious freedom issues and potential collaboration towards positive change.
